Supergirl Season 2 Episode 16 What Episode in Flash Continues

Supergirl season 2, episode 16 recap: Star-Crossed

Supergirl returns tonight in an exciting new episode that reveals Mon-El's true identity and leads into the musical episode of The Flash on Tuesday.

Remember when Mon-El's pod fell to Earth and we all thought he was going be this really cool, Superboy-esque character that saved the world alongside Kara as her equal and friend? Those were good times. Instead of that, we got Mon-El, Prince of Daxam, secret-keeper and the type of superpowered guy who leaves civilians behind, gives up quickly and thinks he's stronger than everyone else — including Kara Zor-El. The character of Mon-El showed potential, but now that his parents are here, it's possible that he may stop acting like a petulant child and be the hero we all want him to be.

To see how Supergirl handles the truth, here's our Supergirl recap of "Star-Crossed":

Fun-employed Kara thinks Funny Face is the most romantic movie of all time and also thinks she's really happy as Supergirl and Girlfriend of Mon-El. But when the Daxamite ship transmits a message to turn over Mon-El, who lies about recognizing the ship, Supergirl goes to investigate. Before the ship's weapon systems can cream her, Mon-El agrees to relinquish himself. He and Supergirl beam up to the ship, where Supergirl meets Mon-El's parents, King Lar Gand (Mon-El's name in the comic books) and Queen Rhea of Daxam.

Of course, Mon-El thought they were dead. In addition to being very much alive, they still harbor some resentment against the Kryptonians. Kara's equally frustrated that they repeatedly try to make excuses about owning slaves and whatnot. Eventually, Mon-El shares how he got off the planet and left everyone behind. It's not like it's unusual for royals to get out first, but Mon-El didn't even try to help anyone. "You benefited from [the planet's] cruelty," Kara says in summation of what I'm thinking. She tends to say what I'm thinking but doesn't follow through with her own disgust.

Meanwhile, Maggie calls Winn to the police station after she learns that someone stole a Van Gogh painting from the museum. He realizes that Lyra didn't appear on the footage, which looks super questionable. Alex and James arrive to pick up Winn and prove that he's been framed. Apparently, this is Lyra's modus operandi.

If Alex doesn't stop encouraging Mon-El and Kara's relationship, I'm going to scream.

When Winn tries to confront Lyra, she attacks him. (He's not a fast runner: "I was a theater geek, not a track star.") Guardian and Alex arrive as a group of thugs start a brawl in the trailer park. Back at the DEO, Lyra shares her backstory on Starhaven and does not apologize for being both a refugee and a thief. She needs to save her brother, Bastian, and clear his debt. Unless she delivers the painting, her brother will die.

Winn devises a plan to help Lyra deliver a fake painting, but the buyer notices immediately. Guardian steps in again, but he's just … not very good at his job. He needs better toys and maybe a jetpack or something. Luckily, the DEO arrives in time to make an arrest. "Traffic was brutal," Alex explains.

Winn Schott and GF exonerated.

After a conversation with Queen Rhea, Supergirl encourages Mon-El to take his rightful place as the leader on Daxam. Later that night, he breaks into her apartment to explain his whole life story. He cries several tears for each of his lies and tells her she's special but tells him that being a hero and being in love is hard and messy. Then, she tells him to leave, because she doesn't want to get hurt again.

When Mon-El returns to his ship, detesting himself and his ignorance, he revolts against his parents. He says he won't return to Daxam and chooses to stay on Earth with Kara instead. I see how Teri Hatcher becomes a villain now because moms don't like when their baby boys choose another woman over them.

Finally, Darren Criss arrives as the Music Meister. Despite wearing handcuffs in the middle of the DEO, he puts a spell on Kara and jumps through the portal to find The Flash. When Kara opens her eyes, she's transported somewhere else, dressed to the nines and put in front of a mic to sing. It's a little Chicago-y.
